Hair Salon in Greenwich Village

Not a salon “near” the Village — the one inside it. Second floor, 13 East 13th Street, where we have cut and colored downtown hair since the early 2000s.

The Red Market New York salon floor in Greenwich Village

The Village is home, not a catchment

Most salons that mention Greenwich Village are describing a drive. Red Market is on 13th Street between Fifth Avenue and University Place — inside the neighborhood, on the second floor of a building that has held a salon for decades. You walk up, not over.

That changes what the salon is good at. A Village guest tends to want color that survives a walk to the subway and a winter under a hat, a cut that works without twenty minutes of styling, and a standing appointment they can keep for years. Our books are full of people who have been in the same chair since before the pandemic — which is the only review that really counts in a neighborhood like this.

What a Village appointment looks like

Color is the heart of the house: hand-painted balayage from $350, single-process color from $185, and a gloss at $95 for the weeks between. Cuts are $180 for women and $140 for men, and every color service opens with a complimentary consultation so the plan is agreed before anything is mixed.

We are open Tuesday to Friday from noon until 8pm, and Saturday from 9am to 6pm. Closed Sunday and Monday. Book online and the confirmation names your artist, your service and the time we have held for you.

French training, downtown hands

The salon is led by owner Reynald Ricard, a master colorist trained in France who brought French color technique from Paris to downtown Manhattan. The team around him is French-trained too — the same discipline about sectioning, formulation and grow-out that makes a French balayage look intentional three months later instead of striped.

Men’s grooming has its own room and its own specialists: precision cuts, beard work and a straight-razor shave, kept separate from the color floor so neither appointment waits on the other.
