A short walk west
From most of the East Village, Red Market is a ten-minute walk west along 13th Street, or one stop on the L from First or Third Avenue into Union Square. We are on the second floor at 13 East 13th Street, between Fifth Avenue and University Place.
East Village guests tend to arrive with a clearer idea of what they want than most, and often something more expressive — a lived-in blonde with grit to it, a copper that reads intentional rather than accidental, a cut with an actual shape instead of a trim. That suits how we work. Freehand painting is far better at deliberate, slightly undone color than foils will ever be.
Color correction is a large part of the job
A good share of the people who find us from the East Village come in after something went sideways — a box dye, a bleach that lifted brassy, a balayage that grew out in stripes. Correction always starts with a consultation and, where there is any doubt about the hair’s condition, a strand test. We would rather tell you honestly that it takes two appointments than promise one and damage your hair.

Yes, and it is a meaningful part of what we do. Bring photos of both where your hair is now and where you want it. Correction begins with a consultation, and depending on what is already in the hair it may be staged over more than one visit rather than forced into one.
