The New York Color House
Balayage hair experts in New York City. A French-founded salon in New York — the most natural color and the most precise cuts, with an effortless downtown edge.
Our Mission
Color so natural, people stop you on the street.
Red Market is a color house first. Led by master colorist Reynald Ricard — Paris-trained, and the man who brought Red Market to downtown New York — our craft is hand-painted balayage and natural, dimensional color with no hard regrowth line and no off-the-shelf formulas. Every shade is mixed to your hair.
Paired with precise cuts built to grow out clean — color and cuts, done properly, in the Village since the early 2000s.

Our Story
A downtown original
Red Market was brought to New York by Reynald Ricard — a master colorist from France — who carried French color technique from Paris to downtown Manhattan in the early 2000s, first in the Meatpacking District, now in the heart of New York City.
It is one half of a two-city Red Market: New York with Reynald, and Miami with Jean Marc Durante. The same spirit runs through both — serious, natural color, precision cuts that grow out beautifully, and an effortless downtown edge.
“Great color shouldn't look done. It should look like it's yours — like you were born with it.” — Reynald Ricard, Master Colorist & Owner

Good to know
Frequently asked
How much does balayage cost?
Balayage at Red Market Salon starts from $350 and includes a personalized gloss. Our Signature Balayage — hand-painted balayage with a custom gloss, deep restorative treatment, luxury blowout, and a take-home pigment shampoo — is $500. Every color service begins with a complimentary consultation so your specialist can design the exact result before pricing it. See the full priced menu at /pricing.
How long does a balayage appointment take?
Plan for roughly two to three hours for a full balayage, depending on your hair’s length, density, and starting color — hand-painting, processing, a personalized gloss, and a finishing blowout all take time. Your exact timing is confirmed at your complimentary consultation.
Do you take walk-ins, or is it by appointment?
Red Market Salon is by appointment so your colorist and chair are reserved just for you — booking is online any time. Color and balayage services in particular are best booked ahead, since they begin with a complimentary consultation.
Where are you located?
We’re in Greenwich Village at 13 East 13th Street, Floor 2, New York, NY 10003 — just off Union Square and University Place, a few minutes from the 4/5/6, L, N/Q/R/W, and F/M trains.
What makes French balayage different?
Red Market is a French-founded color house, and French balayage is a freehand, hand-painted technique — no foils, no off-the-shelf formula. Color is placed exactly where the light would naturally lift it, so highlights look soft and sun-kissed and grow out with no hard regrowth line and minimal maintenance.
How do I book?
Book online in a few taps through our booking system — pick your service and time, and you’re set. Use any “Book” button on this site, or call the salon if you’d rather talk it through first.
