Keratin Treatment NYC

Keratin vs Hair Botox NYC

Long silver-blonde hair with a soft gloss, coloured at Red Market New York

The two services get lumped together because they share a shelf at the salon, but they solve different problems. If your goal is to stop blow-drying your waves straight every morning, one is clearly right for you. If your goal is healthier, shinier hair that still moves, the other is. Here’s the honest breakdown from behind the chair.

They are not the same treatment

A keratin treatment is a smoothing service. A keratin-protein formula is applied and sealed into the hair with heat, relaxing the cuticle and bond so the hair dries straighter, with far less frizz, and stays that way for weeks. It is the closest thing to a “straightening” treatment short of a chemical relaxer — it cuts styling time dramatically and makes hair resistant to humidity.

Hair botox is a misnomer borrowed from skin botox, and it confuses people. It contains no botulinum and does not relax or straighten anything. It is an intensive filler and conditioning treatment: active ingredients are driven deep into the hair shaft to fill gaps in damaged strands, then sealed in. The result is softer, smoother, shinier, more manageable hair — with its natural movement intact. It repairs; it does not reshape.

So the short version: keratin = smoothing and taming; hair botox = repair and conditioning.

Who each one suits

Choose keratin if you want to stop fighting your waves or curls, shorten your morning routine, and trade volume for a sleeker, lower-maintenance finish. It is ideal for thick, coarse, or frizz-prone hair.

Choose hair botox if your hair is dry, over-processed, or breaking from bleach and heat, and you want it to feel healthy again without changing how it moves. It is a favorite for color-treated and lightened hair that needs strength put back.

They are not mutually exclusive either — many guests use botox to rebuild the hair, then a keratin once it is strong enough to smooth.

How long each lasts

A keratin treatment typically holds for three to five months, depending on how often you wash and what you wash with (sulfate-free shampoo extends it). Hair botox generally lasts two to four months as the fillers slowly rinse out, again depending on your routine.

What they cost at Red Market

Both are treatment-tier services, priced for the work and product they use. The Lasio Keratin Treatment is $450 and the Hair Botox Treatment is $350 on our menu. Your exact recommendation is settled at your consultation — a keratin on fine, damaged hair is not the same call as a botox on thick, healthy hair, and a good specialist will tell you which actually serves your hair rather than which costs more.

Every color or treatment service at Red Market opens with a complimentary consultation, so there is no guessing at the chair.
